


The Commercial Arts Training College is committed to adopting the highest standards to safeguard students personal and sensitive information. CATC is bound by the National Privacy Principles as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 and the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000.
CATC’s main function is to provide education to students and therefore is required to collect and hold personal information relating to enrolment and education. Student information held at CATC for current and, where required for past students, is as follows:
It is the right of any current or past student of CATC to have access to their student results at any time. Information that a current or past student does not have access to, is any confidential student anecdotal notes that have been made during their time at college.
All CATC staff members will ensure that no students have access to class rolls, programs of study or any personal details of other students. No information regarding another student will be given or discussed with a third party without the express permission of the person concerned or as permitted by legislation.
There may be circumstances where personal information relating to
an International student may need to be shared to a third party. These
third parties may include the Department of Education, Science and
Training
(DEST) and the Department of Immigration and Multicultural
Affairs (DIMA).

If an international student under the age of 18 changes
their living arrangements, these new details need to be given to the
relevant departments.
Course progress and attendance records may need to be divulged
to DEST if an international student fails to meet the course requirements
in relation to course progress and attendance.
DEST may need to be informed if an international student
cancels a course without college permission and some personal information
in relation to current addresses and contact numbers may need to be
shared.
Current student records are kept electronically via a student database, which is only accessible via a confidential password. Current students paper based files and assessment records are kept in locked filing cabinets at both campuses of CATC.
Applicable student information is kept electronically for 30 years as per standard 4.1 of the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). Full student files (paper based) are kept in locked archives at CATC Brisbane Head Office for 1 (one) year after a student completes study and, depending on individual circumstances, may be archived in CATC’s secure storage facility for 30 years.
If a student believes that the Commercial Arts Training College has not dealt with their personal information in accordance with the college’s Privacy Statement, they may make a complaint in writing to:
The DirectorThe letter should set out in detail the issues of concern. The matter will be investigated and a written reply will be sent within 30 days addressing all issues. If during investigations a policy breakdown has been established, the matter will be addressed and rectified immediately.
